IRRIGATION in
MEDAK DISTRICT

Earlier major source of irrigation was tanks kuntas, and open wells. Gradually tanks and kuntas are silted as a result water storage capacity of these is considerably reduced. Tank bunds have become weak due to soil erosion and some bunds are breached. Govt has not taken any interest on the improvement of tanks. This situation forced farmers to dig tube wells. Small and poor farmers cannot afford huge expenditure on tube wells and have become labourers. Rich farmers dig tube wells who supply water to other farmers who in turn has to give 25% of his total income to the rich farmers. This has become a very good business to rich farmers and drilling machine owners.
